Professional Poker Players

Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel was born in New York City, New York, in 1959.  In the early 70's he would drop out of school toerik seidel become a professional backgammon player.  Seidel currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Before beginning his poker career, he worked on wall street and was a professional backgammon player, excelling in tournaments.  Eventually he moved towards playing poker.  He played at the famous Mayfair Club, with other soon to be professional poker players such as Howard Lederer and Dan Harrington.

He is one of the more recognizable players in poker, partly from his tournament success and partly from his infamous WSOP moment featured in the movie "Rounders".  The final hand of his 1998 WSOP Main Event heads-up match vs. Johnny Chan was featured in the movie.  Chan played the hand perfectly, and suckered Seidel into going all-in on the river.

His infamous 98' WSOP match seems to follow Seidel even all these years later.  Despite this, he is one of the most successful tournament and WSOP players.  Seidel has captured 7 gold bracelets, and over 100 total cashes.  He won WSOP gold bracelets in 3 consecutive years from 1992-94, a record that was held by only him until Allen Cunningham recently duplicated the feat.

Erik plays online poker at Full Tilt Poker as an offcially sponsored pro, under the screen name "Erik Seidel".
