Phil Gordon was born in 1970 in El Paso, Texas. He learned how to play poker from his aunt. At the age of 15 Gordon went to college on National Merit Scholarship. He graduated with a degree in computer science when he was 20. Gordon worked as a software engineer. He currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Phil attended his first World Series of Poker in 2001. Remarkably, he made the final table, finishing 4th. The next year Gordon made 2 more final tables at the WSOP. At the 2005 WSOP Phil made another final table, with his best career finish in 3rd place. Despite his success at making WSOP final tables, Phil has not won a gold bracelet to date.
Phil's only major tournament victory was at the World Poker Tour's Bay 101 Shooting Stars. He beat out a final table consisting of stars David Plastik and Chris Moneymaker to win the $400,000 prize.
Gordon is a former host of the T.V. show "Celebrity Poker Showdown". He has also been featured on NBC's "Poker After Dark". Gordon has also authored a poker strategy book, "Poker: The Real Deal".
His aunt who taught him to play poker died of cancer. Since then, he has been a board member of the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation, helping with fundraisers.
