Phil "The Tiger Woods Of Poker" Iveyphil ivey

Phil Ivey was born in California in 1976.  He grew up in New Jersey, where he first started playing poker.  Before beginning his full time poker career, Ivey worked as a telemarketer.  He played poker against his co-workers and in Atlantic City, and gradually worked less and played poker more until deciding to turn pro.  He currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ivey's incredible tournament success began in 2000, winning his first 3 major poker tournaments and making 6 other final tables.  One of these 3 tournament wins earned him his 1st WSOP gold bracelet in a Pot Limit Omaha event.

2002 confirmed Phil into a very small group of the most elite professional poker players.  He won a record tying 3 WSOP gold bracelets in the same year, a feat that has only been accomplished by Ted Forrest and Phil Hellmuth.

Despite Ivey's remarkable tournament play, He has never won a World Poker Tour or European Poker Tour event.  He has made numerous final tables on both tours.  This fact hardly seems to matter when taking into consideration his 5 gold bracelets and quickly approaching 100 tournament cashes.  There is no doubt that Phil is one of the best active tournament players.

Phil's popular nickname is "the Tiger Woods of poker".  He also has another less known nickname, "No Home Jerome".  He acquired this from the fake I.D. he used to play poker in Atlantic City while he was a teenager.

Phil Ivey plays online poker as a officially sponsored pro at Full Tilt Poker, under the screen name "Phil Ivey".

Most professional poker players and other experts consider Phil to be the best overall poker player currently playing.  Ivey has won 5 WSOP bracelets, 3 of them coming in one year.  Over the last few years he has become the perennial favorite to win the WSOP main event.
